Have your say on new hydrogen pipeline for Humber, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire

From Tuesday 3rd March 2026, Cadent is giving people the chance to have their say on early plans for a major new hydrogen pipeline. H2East Pipeline: Humber to Nottinghamshire will play a vital role in retaining local jobs, encouraging inward investment, supporting hydrogen producers and decarbonising industry.

The pipeline will supply low-carbon hydrogen to key industries across the Humber, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire region. Largely underground, the H2East Pipeline: Humber to Nottinghamshire will run around 150km (93 miles) from Immingham in the Humber to Newark in Nottinghamshire. It will also include some above ground infrastructure at certain points along the route.

The Project is part of East Coast Hydrogen, a collaboration between Cadent, National Gas and Northern Gas Networks to connect planned hydrogen production and storage with industrial users.

The proposals could mean that manufacturers of steel, chemicals, bricks, food and more will be able to switch from natural gas, which largely consists of methane, to low-carbon hydrogen. Industrial users who have already expressed an interest in connecting to the pipeline once it has been built include British Sugar, British Steel, Forterra, Heidelberg Materials, Knauf, Lenzing, Singleton Birch, Tayto and Tronox, with potential hydrogen producers including Uniper and HyMarnham Power.

During the consultation, Cadent will be presenting its plans and asking people for their views on the proposals including details on the route. The public consultation will run for six weeks, until Tuesday 14th April, with plenty of opportunities for everyone to have their say.

The following information events will offer the chance to see the plans and ask questions. All in person events are drop-ins.

Adam Knight, H2East Pipeline: Humber to Nottinghamshire Project Director at Cadent, said: “Today, we are launching public consultation on our plans for the H2East Pipeline: Humber to Nottinghamshire project. We will be listening carefully to what businesses and local communities tell us. Their views will help shape our proposals, including the details of the route. We are immensely proud to be playing our part in building a thriving hydrogen economy for this industrial heartland.”

The H2East Pipeline: Humber to Nottinghamshire is expected to be determined through the Government’s Development Consent Order (DCO) planning process. It is anticipated that the development process from the start, through DCO submission, examination and then decision, will take between four to five years.
